Manganese –Boron steels22MnB5 and 30MnB5 boron air hardening steels Boron air hardening steels are used for applications calling for very good wear resistance characteristics Properties Air hardening steels represent a technological break-through in the field of heat treatment. They use boron as a tempering agent. The ladle treatment carried out on these steels, combined with the control of the thermo-mechanical treatment of the strip mill, produces very fine microstructures, which give them a remarkable hardening capacity. These characteristics result in excellent post heat treatment behaviour of the finished part under load Advantage The high level of hardness obtained after heat treatment enables them to be used for applications requiring very high resistance to wear by abrasion. These steels make it possible to achieve significant weight reduction in structural or moving parts (up to 50% more than that obtained with high elastic limit steels). The particular advantage of boron air hardening steels is their suitability for water quenching, which makes their treatment more environmentally friendly (effluents) than that of the usual high carbon steels. Their aptitude for tempering is exceptional regardless of the medium (gaseous or liquid). We offer two qualities of boron air hardening steel, 22MnB5 AM FCE and 30 MnB5 AM FCE grades The choice is dictated by : - The hardness required for the finished part ; - The severity of its forming. Grades 22MnB5 AM FCE and 30MnB5 AM FCE can be formed hot or cold. Applications Boron air hardening steels are used for applications requiring very good wear resistance characteristics. Among the main ones, we could mention agricultural machines (discs and ploughshares), earth moving vehicles and vehicles destined for the mining industry, cutting parts, etc.
